Re: Bettors Pocket to try a slightly easier approach - well hopefully...
Bettors Pocket back at Alexandra Park had the hardest run in the race from barrier seven and ran home well enough in a fast last 800. A pleasing effort indicative of being competitive in his next starts. A very nice group of horses in ATC2014. Perhaps Bettors Pocket has earned the right to a new heading / title for these posts about him.
As there usually is no video from the Waikato workouts could someone please post a report of the runs put in by Rhubarb Lane and Major Change.

Yes. the winner had what looked like bad luck when checked slightly but then good luck in being able to shoot through on the inside of Posie who had to go pretty wide.
Posie looks a nice stayer in the making and his racing manners continue to impress more every time he races.

Tonight was another good run for 2nd at Manawatu. I think that it was only bad luck that stopped him winning with an awkward rounding on the final bend and a bit of squeezing up pushing him extra wide. He showed a bit of toe with his run down the outside.
At this rate his leaving of the maiden grade should not be too far away.

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the effort shown from Posie in his race yesterday. I hadn't seen too much to get excited about with his previous runs, but yesterday he showed that he can sprint for the line at the end of his races.
OK, lets put it in perspective - it was Hawera on the grass and not Alexandra Park or Cambridge, but a competitive spirit is a competitive spirit regardless of the track.

Stipes Report:-
Race 5 SANDFORD BROS MOBILE PACEVideo Video
MEMPHIS MISS raced fiercely entering the first turn and then broke briefly with GENERAL TIM having to take evasive action which placed SECRET WEAPON in restricted room for some strides. MEMPHIS MISS then continued to over-race badly before giving ground over the final stages. A warning was placed against this filly's racing manners.
LADY MARIA paced roughly entering the back straight before being taken three wide approaching the 1200 metres.
GENERAL TIM broke briefly near the 1100 metres and then paced roughly before commencing to give ground. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormality and a warning was placed against the gelding's racing manners.
BETTORS POCKET was badly held up for clear running until inside the 100 metres. Driver T Herlihy reported that he did not activate the deafeners due to being held up.

Yes Des, quite a good effort after getting pocketed 3 back but stretched out well for a fast finishing second.
Got quite excited when the judge announced a 2m02 mile rate but actually 2m08 so his calculator must have been on low battery power.
I understand they are looking at Manawatu later in April, all going well ,for Change. Might suit better and hopefully can sit back a bit so avoiding being attacked by other runners, both of which on Saturday faded out but set the race up for those biding their time further back in the field.

A nice run from Bettors Pocket at Hawera. Looks like we have three competitive horses in ATC 2014 which will provide us with a lot of interest. Does anyone know the future plans for Major Change?

Posie is quite an impressive physical type and from his recent workout looks to be improving his racing manners.
The Hawera track should present some character building opportunities. Just hope he can cope with the trip and race day.

Posie is listed in the nominations on the HRNZ website to line up in a race at Hawera on the second day of the meeting on Easter Monday.
Should be a bit easier than the competition that he has been up against in his first two career races at Alexandra Park. Just hope for some fine weather as the Hawera track gets a bit boggy if too much rain.
Fingers crossed......weather-wise, and for a good run from him.
